Sun in Your Eyes? 4 Ways to Protect Your Eyes While Enjoying the Sunshine

Sun in Your Eyes

It’s not uncommon for many individuals to remember to protect their skin by slathering on sunscreen, but they often forget that their eyes are susceptible to sun damage as well. Whether you’re headed to the beach or the pool, you need to make sure that you protect your eyes for the sun. Fortunately, it’s not that difficult to protect your eyes when you are outdoors. Here are four ways that you can protect your eyes while enjoying the sunshine.

Sunglasses

Sunglasses aren’t only a great accessory that you can use to make your outfit look more stylish, but they are also one of the easiest ways to protect your eyes while you are out in the sun. To get the most protection, you should choose sunglasses that offer both UVB and UVA protection. Make sure that they have large lenses so that they completely cover your eyes and the surrounding area. This will ensure that you get as much protection as possible.

UV Protected Contact Lenses

Many individuals don’t realize that their contact lenses can actually protect their eyes from the sun. When you visit your ophthalmologist for a check-up and to discuss eye care, you should talk to them about UV protected contact lenses. They can offer your eyes the protection they need when you are in the sun.

Not all contact lenses offer this type of protection. If you already have contact lenses that you are currently wearing, you shouldn’t just assume that they have UV protection. You will need to check with your doctor to see if your current contact lenses protect your eyes from the sun. Even if your contacts do provide some protection, in some areas where the sun is stronger, you may need more protection than you currently have.

An Umbrella

If you plan on just lounging on the beach or by the pool, an umbrella can provide adequate protection for your eyes. Just make sure that you stay under the umbrella as much as possible. When you leave the protection of the umbrella, use sunglasses or a hat to protect your eyes. If the umbrella is large and covers your whole body, it will protect not only your eyes, but your skin as well.

A Hat

The right hat can protect your eyes from the sun. However, a standard baseball hat might not offer enough protection. Opt for a hat that has a wide brim. It should shade the majority of your face in order to provide the best protection. This will also protect your face from sunburning.

There are a variety of ways that you can protect your eyes from the sun. In order to thoroughly protect them, you should use several of the methods above. By doing so, you will ensure that your eyes are protected while you are enjoying the sunshine.
