CBD may be effective for these 7 conditions

The therapeutic potential of cannabidiol (CBD) is enormous. The compound comes from the cannabis plant, but does not have any of the psychoactive properties that marijuana is both loved and hated for. However, as a medicine, this makes CBD much more appealing to the masses, many of whom are opposed to experiencing intoxication in order to get the health benefits.

In this post, we’ll look at seven conditions where wholesale CBD products could be beneficial.

Stress

Everybody seems to be pretty stressed out nowadays. Whether that’s because of a hectic personal life, events on the news or any other factor, this can all have a negative effect on our mental and physical wellbeing – making it important to stamp stress out wherever possible.

Cortisol is the hormone responsible for the stress that we experience. A critical hormone that spikes when the body senses danger, cortisol stops serving us when it’s increased unnecessarily, as it causes us to always lead a life on the edge, looking out for threats. CBD reduces levels of cortisol in the body, by preventing the hormone from being produced.

Arthritis

For some, arthritis is caused by a dysfunctional immune system (rheumatoid), while for others, it can be the result of extreme wear and tear to a certain part of the body, which has led to the destruction of joint cartilage (osteoarthritis). Whatever type of arthritis you suffer from, the anti-inflammatory effects of CBD could be beneficial for you.

The cannabinoid works to relieve inflammation in a different way to the other anti-inflammatory drugs out there. CBD helps the immune system to find a balance between anti and pro-inflammatory messages by indirectly sending immunomodulatory messages via the endocannabinoid system (ECS).

Psychosis and schizophrenia

Psychosis and schizophrenia are two serious mental conditions that cause the patient to become out of touch with reality, paranoid and more. The psychoactive effects of the cannabis plant have historically been accused of triggering psychotic episodes in people predisposed to the illness.

It’s rather ironic, then, that CBD looks to have medicinal value for these conditions. This is all down to CBD having the opposite effect on the body to THC, and inhibiting activity at the CB1 receptor as an antagonist of it. CBD looks to have fewer side effects than existing antipsychotic medication.

Depression

The mental disorder depression is an illness that medical experts still haven’t fully gotten to grips with. Nowhere is this more obvious than with the SSRI drugs used to manage depression, which is ineffective for many of the patients who use them, and often cause dependency.

CBD’s antidepressant properties are fascinating, and the compound may help in several ways. Firstly, the anti-inflammatory effects protect regions of the brain which are essential for mental health – like the prefrontal cortex – from damage. Secondly, CBD boosts active levels of anandamide, one of the body’s natural antidepressants.

Bipolar disorder

Bipolar is a mood disorder that can cause extreme changes in personality. Formerly known as manic depression, bipolar patients can go from feeling lethargic and low to energetic and high. CBD may be able to have a therapeutic effect on both of these bipolar symptoms.

While more research is necessary, this appears to be thanks to a regulating effect at the CB1 receptor, which is part of the ECS, and key to central nervous system functioning. The CB1 receptor is in charge of an array of psychological variables, mood being one.

Migraines

The headaches and nasty ‘aura’ symptoms that come from migraines can be extremely debilitating for those who suffer from them, not least because they can arise in minutes. Research on the root cause of migraines has generally thrown up more questions than answers, but a new team may have cracked the code, pinning migraines on ECS regulation. Studies indicate that CBD and cannabis may indeed help with migraines.

Pain

Cannabis has been used as a natural painkiller pretty much since historical records began. However, that was by consuming the plant in its entirety, and only in the past few decades have researchers been able to start working out the effects of cannabinoids when in their isolated state.

However, the pain-relieving properties of CBD have been confirmed from a slew of recent studies, and also by users who are benefitting from hemp-based products, manufactured by Koi CBD and other brands. This is a huge breakthrough, as it means that those seeking a natural and safe alternative can switch from opioid drugs to a form of non-psychoactive cannabis for relief.
